Dear CT AHEAD Members,

Our first meeting of the year will take place next week on Friday, September 25th. At the meeting, in addition to a round-table discussion, members will vote on the addition of a 5th board position. We hope to also have nominations for the position to vote-in the new board member at the meeting. Only current institutional or individual members are permitted to vote or join the board; however, we understand dues may be impacted at this time, and we do not want for this to prohibit membership. Please read below for more information on membership, the September meeting, and the new board position.

Membership:

As we prepared for our first meeting next week, it is easy to acknowledge the financial constraints that colleges and universities are currently experiencing in the wake of the pandemic. Because we feel professional development and colleague consultation and connection takes precedence over an immediate membership fee deadline in these times, individuals are able to enroll in CT AHEAD membership for this year (fall 2020-spring 2021) by submitting their membership form now and may submit their payments by the end of the academic year.

We welcome you to submit your membership forms prior to the Member Round Table Meeting on September 25th. Membership forms can be accessed online (at the bottom under “Get Started”), and can be emailed to Tracy Carlson at trcarlson@hartford.edu. Please reply to this email with any questions or concerns relating to membership or CT AHEAD.

September Meeting:

The first meeting of the year is scheduled for September 25th, 2020, from 10:00am – noon, and will be conducted through Zoom. We thank everyone who provided us with input regarding the discussion topics for the meeting. We received some wonderful suggestions and are looking forward to the discussion! Key topics will include:

  • Navigating accommodations, including requests related to masks and hearing impairments
  • Assisting faculty with understanding and implementing accommodations
  • Office safety protocols
  • General student challenges
  • and others

The Zoom information for the meeting will be sent to members next week. We also wanted to share with you the results of the AHEAD National Survey related to COVID-19, which may be helpful in our discussion.

Board Position:

Finally, we are excited to announce that we are moving forward with adding a 5th board position! There was adequate member support included in the responses to the April Business Meeting, and the Steering Committee followed this summer with the recommendation to add the position. Adding a 5th board position is a change to the bylaws and requires a membership vote, which will take place at the September meeting.

Anticipating approval for the additional position, we are currently seeking members who are interested in joining the board as the new Digital Information Officer. Anticipated duties will include:

  • Maintaining the organization’s web presence
  • Creating digital material related to the organization
  • Management of the organization’s social media presence

Any member can nominate themselves or another member. Please reply to this email with your nominations and/or interest. Also, let us know if you have any questions about the position.
